Open Athens

This guide is intended to provide basic information on Open Athens, the College's new library authentication system.

How do I use OpenAthens to Access Library Resources?

OpenAthens works to connect you behind the scenes.  Sign in to myBSC as you usually do.  Then, click on the link for Library Resources. You will then be connected to the virtual library after a short pause.

On the virtual library page, look for Quick Links on the right.  Then, click on A-Z databases.  If you stay in the same web browser, you can connect to any* resource on A-Z databases without another login.  (*Lexis Advance still requires separate login for Paralegal students and faculty)

When you have logged in to the virtual library and click on a permalink in the same browser, you will connect or "authenticate" to the library resource after a short pause.

When using a permalink or a link from A-Z databases in a separate web browser, you will first be prompted for single sign-on (SSO) login. You will then be connected to the resource after a short pause.

You may be able to authenticate from some resources directly. For example, I have a doi (digitial object identifier URL) to an article I found in Sage.  I did not log in to myBSC or virtual library.  Can I get a full-text article?  If Bryant & Stratton has a license for that content, and the source accepts OpenAthens, you may be able to access content.

1. I found a link to an article, but when I click on it, I can't get full text; just an abstract.

https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/089124240101500101

2.  This article provides Institutional Access through OpenAthens. Click on the OpenAthens button to search for Bryant & Stratton College.

3.  Search Find your organisation -- type Bryant -- then click on the Bryant & Stratton College. (Disregard Sign in with an OpenAthens account).undefined

4. You will see the familiar Bryant & Stratton SSO login screen--log in as usual.

5. IF content is licensed to Bryant & Stratton, then full text will be available.

Links to websites that do not include Bryantstratton.edu in the address are suggested as information helpful for students and faculty. The websites are not affiliated with Bryant & Stratton College.
