Felton Davis - Math - fdavis@bryantstratton.edu

Felton sees teaching and tutoring math at the Buffalo Campus as giving a service back to the community.  He has earned B.S., M.B.A, and J.D degrees and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College Reserve Course.  Mr. Davis has NY State Permanent Public School Teacher Certificates for: School District Administrator; Mathematics Instructor 7-12; and Business and Distributive Education.  He worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Internal Audit and Property Management prior to coming to B&SC.  He is a veteran and holds a private pilot license. 

Dennis Edwards - General Academic Assistanve - dedwards@bryantstratton.edu

Dennis has been teaching accounting and business at Bryant & Stratton College since 2001. Prior to that he worked at General Mills while finishing college with a BS in accounting and management. Dennis started working at General Mills in the warehouse loading trucks and boxcars and was later promoted to supervisor. He retired in 1999 as a plant manager. While at General Mills he gained experience in production, budgets, and personnel while running a plant of over 200 employees.

Carol Heavern - cfheavern@bryantstratton.edu

Carol originally started at Bryant & Stratton in 2016 as a Computer Skills & Office 365 tutor, providing both in-person and remote/online assistance to students. Recently she was an O365 online remote tutor for a national company, and is now an O365 online instructor & tutor for the Niagara Wheatfield CSD Community Education program. Her skill set includes computer basics & navigation, Office 365, Office Online, OneDrive, and Teams. Carol is a Certified Microsoft Office Specialist who is able to assist with Word (Expert), Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook in computer-based projects. And she is also certified in Communication Skills for Business, so she uses her administrative assistant experiences to help students develop skills for business communications assignments. Carol always looks forward to sharing all her computer knowledge with students.

Douglas Jacob - Math, Computer Applications - drjacob@bryantstratton.edu

Doug has a Master's degree in mathematics and a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a minor in computer science from the University at Buffalo.  He started as a teaching assistant and has taught college math and computer courses since 2008.  Doug began teaching at Bryant & Stratton College in 2012.  Starting in 2019, he tutored students in math and computers in the Learning Center.  He has also worked as an IT help desk assistant.  He enjoys helping students gain the confidence and knowledge to succeed in their coursework.   

Rachel Johnson - English/Writing - rljohnson@bryantstratton.edu

Rachel Johnson started working at Bryant & Stratton College in January 2020 and teaches Precollege English. She owns a small business, Ella Marie Elm. She received a Master of Arts in English with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Innovative Writing from University at Buffalo. Her poetry book, A Granddaughter’s Memories was published by Foothills Publishing in June 2021. Currently, she is working on a few memoirs. She lived in Hawaii for 4 years and loves talking about it.  

Dorothea Kerling - Writing/English - dkerling@bryantstratton.edu

Dorothea Kerling's education includes a B.A. degree in English from Daemen College, an M.S. degree in English Education from Buffalo State College, and post-graduate studies also from Buffalo State. In addition, she possesses a Permanent Teaching Certificate for English Instruction from New York State.

Thirteen years ago, after spending many years teaching English at the high school level, she transitioned to tutoring college students at Bryant & Stratton College where she finds she learns as much (or perhaps even more) from her students, as they may learn from her.

John McFadden - Writing/Computer Applications - jcmcfadden@bryantstratton.edu

John has been an information technology tutor at the Buffalo campus for the past 10 years. He spent the previous 35 years at Bryant & Stratton College as an IT instructor. Prior to that, he studied computer programming at Bryant & Stratton Business Institute and The University at Buffalo.  His classical training in philosophy and theology prepared him well to tutor in a wide range of areas.  When he is not crunching bits and bytes, he spends considerable time with his genealogy research, and his extensive stamp and coin collections.  Family and church occupy much of the rest of his time. What’s left, is filled with books, mostly fiction.   

Travis McNamara - English, Writing, Business - tamcnamara@bryantstratton.edu

Travis McNamara is primarily a writing tutor – but brings a very diverse skill set to the leaning center. While he attained his degrees in business, his true passions lie in writing, the social sciences, and humanities such as economics, psychology, sociology, and philosophy. He is also very adept at using the MS Office suite. Additionally, while he might not have background in medical and some other areas, he will gladly help you research anything in any subject if he is free and you need assistance. 

Susan Penfold - English, Writing - spenfold@Bryantstratton.edu

Susan has a master’s degree in English literature, was an English instructor for ten years at Bryant & Stratton College, and after retiring, began to work as a tutor. She loves tutoring, helping students get a handle on succeeding in their schoolwork! On the home front, she has two dogs and one cat, and loves to read. She hopes to see you soon in the Learning Center.

Valerie Petty - Accounting/Business Computer Applications - vmpetty@bryantstratton.edu

Valerie earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Bryant & Stratton College and a MBA from Canisius College.   She has always enjoyed training at various jobs in the past and enjoys helping others which is  one reason she chose to work as a tutor.  She felt graduating from Bryant & Stratton would help her relate to the students and understand where they are coming from.  Valerie is not only a tutor at Bryant & Stratton but also an adjunct instructor. Her professional career she has worked in banking.   In her spare time Valerie enjoys music and theater as well as spending time with her border collie rescue dog and rescue cats

Deborah Roman - Medical Assisting - djroman@bryantstratton.edu

Deborah Roman has been with Bryant & Stratton since 2011.  She started teaching phlebotomy and EKG certification courses at the Southtowns campus.  Prior to that, she taught at Eastwick College teaching the Medical Assisting Program for 10 years with an emphasis on clinical skills.  She has a Bachelor's in Health Care Education as well as certifications in both Phlebotomy and EKG Technician.  She now teaches exclusively at the Amherst campus and has tutored there since 2016.  Her area of tutoring are anatomy, medical terminology, clinical procedures as well as basic office management.  She truly enjoys teaching and watching students achieve their goals.  As an adult learner, she understands how tough it is to juggle family, work, and school.  During her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as watching football and hockey.

Fortuna Semere - Medical Assisting - fsemere@bryantstratton.edu

Fortuna has a Master’s degree in Public Administration, a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Service Administration, and an Associate’s of Applied Science in Medical Assisting. She has also completed a registered nursing program . She, currently helps medical students with the comprehension of various aspects of the Medical Assisting program by demonstrating administrative and clinical competencies. These include instruction in the use of case studies,  taking vital signs, using peer-reviewed journals, and assisting students with creating PowerPoint, portfolio projects, and other necessary aspects of class assignments. She also proctors students taking the ACT, ATB, and CCMA exams. In her spare time, she enjoys reading non-fiction books from the 18th Century about specific events or stories of people’s lives. 

Lou Wallen - Accounting, Business - lwallen@bryantstratton.edu

Louis has a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Tech., a Bachelor’s in Accounting from Brooklyn College, and a MBA from SUNYAB, he has spent a lot of time in on-ground and online universities.  

His teaching experience includes the U.S. Army, as a chemical, biological, and radiological instructor. He has also taught in his own business teaching managers, in Junior Achievement, and at Yeshiva Menachem of Amherst, math and finance tutoring. He is also an adjunct professor at Daemen College and an instructor at Bryant & Stratton College and At the University of Phoenix he facilitates graduate and undergraduate finance and accounting courses. He also teaches second graders “Our Community” for Junior Achievement!) 

Lou enjoys being an instructor because it allows him the ability to share his business, practical finance, and accounting experiences from the many industries he has been involved in with students in an effort to help make difficult concepts more understandable.  This, in turn, will help students learn and apply that learning to their own environment/job and career.
